Mlawula Nature Reserve

Mlawula Nature Reserve is located in the north-eastern part, between latitudes 26°09’E and 26°20’E and between longitudes 31°56’S and 32°06’S. It is a beautiful park covering an area of about 16 500 ha. Mlawula has breath taking landscapes with a diverse variety of fauna and flora. Mlawula has a large variety of fauna species distributed throughout the reserve. The composition of fauna in the park include; mammals, fish, reptiles, amphibians, birds and invertebrates. The reserve lies within the transitional zone between two biogeographic regions, the dry thorn savannas on the west, and the moister coastal thickets on the east. The reserve consists of three distinct ecological zones, the Ndzindza plateau, the Siphiso Valley and the rhyolite ridges on the western boundary.

Mlawula offers rare opportunities for visitors to walk self-guided on the trails through the bushveld. There are 10 walking trails that vary in length from 1.5km to a full day. Our trails are designed to take you to every corner of the park, exposing you to historical caves, Iron wood forests, Lubombo plateau escarpment, riverine areas and bushveld thickets. You are guaranteed to come across a large variety of flora and fauna as you walk through the park.
